Today is the first day of the new year! As you open your 365 day Bible, you have an amazing selection of readings from the New and Old Testaments, the Psalms and Proverbs.
As you read, let God talk to you. He is teaching you as you read. He is speaking to you.
The Creator of the Universe, who knew you before you were born, sent His only Son for your salvation. The word of God is soundly given to you daily in the Holy Bible. As your read the Proverb daily, remember, they are words of wisdom that a Father gives to the child He loves.
Be encouraged,
Becky
Happy New Year to all of you! I'm just checking in to say that I'm off to a good start. Today's familiar passages spoke to me in new ways this morning, and I feel ready to face the new year.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week, everyone! I wish you many blessings in 2011.
Wanda
Wanda this is going to be very interesting being on 2 sites. I too, was surprised by today's reading. So rich..........
ReplyDeleteAll of us in these two groups are starting the year off with some very worthwhile goals. Tonight I pulled out a copy of an essay entitled "The Strangest Secret"; it was written many years ago by a man named Earl Nightingale, and I like to use bits of it at the start of a new year with my WW group. In the essay, he speaks of success and failure, goal-setting, and the power of the mind, likening it to a "fertile field." He reminds us of the Biblical passage, "As ye sow, so shall ye reap," and he ends with this part, which I think suits our groups well:
ReplyDelete"The moment you decide on a goal to work toward, you're immediately a successful person--you are then in that rare group of people who know where they're going. Out of every hundred people, you belong to the top five. Don't concern yourself too much with how you are going to achieve your goal--leave that completely to a power greater than yourself. All you have to do is know where you're going. The answers will come to you of their own accord, and at the right time. Start today. You have nothing to lose--but you have your whole life to win!"
Goodnight!
What a great quote!! Sounds like it needs to be posted in the other group as well. I asked my son what he got out of Becky's sermon at church Sunday. He said "You are what you read" I then asked him if by what she said was he inspired to read the bible. "Yes, I could use God influencing my life more."
ReplyDeleteThen my husband said, who is not a christian," I don't understand why a person who claims to be guided by Jesus doesn't naturally read the bible daily. 5 minutes a day doesn't seem like much of a reflection of your following. I read the wall street journal 5 days a week never miss a day. I don't wait until midnight I read it first thing in the morning. It is what is important to me. "
So why has it taken me sooooooooooo long to get this as a habit in my journey with God?
Hello! Well I have been reading Becky's Daily Bible for going on 10 years. It amazes me that every year I hear God speak something new to me in my reading. I decided to try this since I am hoping to go deeper in my walk with Jesus. I am wanting to learn what "in Christ" truly means for me and my life. Thank you for offering this for the year. I am excited to see what others hear God saying to them.
ReplyDeleteRobbie,,,,,,,,wow.
ReplyDeleteThat's all I can say.
Wow.
I'm going to remember the wall street journal thing.
So blessed God enabled me to be in this group.
It was a last minute thing, and a blessing.
Wow Wanda---- I love the quote- I may have to see if I can find the article/ essay- However, very appropriate way to start this group- This is a goal- AND to meet it- we need the power from a higher source that we all know as God. Thanks for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteBecky I am at 5/5 for this week. I am seeing the uncondintinal surrender of the "family" in Genesis. However, it's also interesting knowing the humanness of these people also Abram and Sari in their doubting what God would do.
ReplyDeleteRobbie, I'm so glad your husband and son went with you to Becky's church on Sunday--Love the story you shared about your husband's WSJ!
ReplyDeleteThanks, GiGi. I think you'll like the whole essay; it's about five or six pages long, but well worth reading. Try searching through Google, and I'm sure you can get it there. Great comments about the "humanness" of these people long ago--and their doubts about God's supremacy. My opening comment for Day 3 in my journal was "Life in pre-flood times was not so different from life in 2010-11! Lust, greed, and violence were rampant, and the behavior of humans broke God's heart. . . ."
Hello from Pam in Texas! I am 5 for 5 the start of week one. In reality I am 7 of 7 for the calendar week. And, I was able to pray, read, and study 365 days in 2010.
ReplyDeleteThis new accomplishement for me led me to join this group. I plan on achieving the same number of days, but learn more through each of you. The posts above have heled already.
This week the select readings from the bible, as well as the reading from my devotional lessons tell me to aggressively pursue righteousness and always seek and use wisdom.
These were evident in the readings of old, new, psalms, and proverbs. And so, I reflect and learn with you since "reading the Bible without reflecting is like eating without chewing." Happy New Year!
7 for 7 on the 7'th
ReplyDeleteI'm also 7 for 7 on the 7th!
