Angels

I am always impressed with the number of times an "angel" is referred to in the Bible. This week, in particular, the first chapter in Luke describes the wonderful story of Gabriel, the angel's, appearance to both Zechariah and Mary. I also find it interesting how women respond to angels as compared to men (...I'm just saying...)

For example, as Mary is told she will bear a child--though a virgin--and He would be the Son of God, she believes. I love verses 37 and 45 in Luke 1--they increase my faith. I hope they increase your faith. (We all need encouragement, don't we?) When both Zechariah (in the New Testament) and Balaam in the Old Testament are confronted by angels, they seem skeptical. What's the lesson? GOD SPEAKS. He comes in ways and shapes and forms and sounds -- and we must pay attention to His voice.

Have I heard or seen an angel? I don't think so. But I have had those moments of life-changing, life-altering, thought-provoking conversations with strangers (or acquaintances) that have changed my direction, inspired me to keep believing, or prompted me to go a different direction.

Angels are God's messengers. Keep watching, listening, and waiting.

Be encouraged,

Becky

  1. I have to share that one day many years ago, I was picking my best friend's son up at school.
I was telling him about the Bible verse that says we may be entertaining angels unaware. I indicated that one never knows who they are talking to.
Well, he looked at me very sternly and said, "Mom says I am NOT supposed to talk to strangers........."
    ooopps! :-)

  2. 7 out of 7...yeah...I sure wish I could get this going with some other goals in my life

anyway...the whole angels thing...I think god does speak to us through angels. We often talk about those we love being in heaven and wonder what they are doing...but there are things that happen in life that well, I believe come from angels...I am comforted by the concept that occassionally that angel might be someone who has gone ahead of us...I look for angels in my day...I am having lunch with one of my angels today...my 5th grade sunday school teacher...she's now 86 years old and she's taking me out for my birthday. It's a small thing...but I am separated from my husband and it has been a hard year. She knows it and she made a point of seeking me out on my birthday to do something fun. Yesterday it was a text message from a friend. In a moment of chaos, her text arrived and grounded me.

  5. Hello All. I am a little late in listening to this weeks call. But it was encouraging as always. Becky, I agree with you it is special this year as I too have been reading through the Bible for a number of years but God seems to be talking to me or rather I am listening more through his word and what you talk to us about and get us thinking about and also the others in this group.

I also noticed the angels in this last weeks reading. I jounaled that the donkey saw the angel but the man didn't and asked myself how many angels do I miss in a day, a week or a month? Also, I asked myself when reading the NT and Zechariah was sceptical, am I sceptical when God is talking to me through his word or maybe even angels that I don't recogize it as him?

Here is the prayer I prayed on March 16th with the 59 Psalm:
    Lord God,

You are my strength; I wait for you to rescue me, for you, O God, are my fortress. In your unfailing love, you will stand with me. O LORD, you are my shield. I will sing about your power. I will sing for joy each moring about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety when I am in distress. O my Strength, to you I sing praises, for you, O God who show me unfailing love. Amen

God does walk with us everyday that we invite him to. I know this because I couldn't get through the day alone.

    Have a blessed week.

  6. Lorraine, Thank you for that prayer!! I like the community of thoughts of what God is saying to each of us. How am I skeptical in believing that God is going to handle a specific situation?
In Numbers 32:11 Wholeheartedly stood out to me. By praying and reading the word God is helping me wholeheartedly follow Him. 33:2 "At the Lord's direction, Moses kept a written record of their progress". God telling me to write out my God moments keep a record of His provision and guidance.
Then in Luke 5: 16 The power of friends. By praying for others I am being a good friend to them.
That's all for today. God Bless and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  7. Week 11: 7 of 7 and 77 of 77

Though late posting as we were out for spring break last week and I was with my daughter, I never missed a day of reading and praying.

Listening to the call and reflecting on where I was at the time of the call, it is clear to me that God's messengers and angels were you.

Knowing that God is anywhere and everywhere and can send angels in any form, your prayers lifted my spirits then, and now. Thank you!

  8. I really appreciate the thoughtful postings from everyone this week. Later I will share some insights from my pastor’s sermon on Sunday; he spoke of the presence of angels, and I thought of our studies in this group.

I’m sad to say that after keeping up with the readings for every day of the year until this week, I really got off track the last few days. I’ve been up past midnight every night since the weekend, but finally the yearbook is finished. My students have worked tirelessly--and almost around the clock--for the last week, and I was able to proof and submit the final pages at 12:30 a.m. today. All of us are exhausted but proud of the way the book turned out; I am very grateful that God has helped me stay focused and survive on so little sleep.

I believe He is working in all of our lives; your comments are insightful and very powerful, and I look forward to getting involved with the blog now that I’ve crossed this latest hurdle.

God bless you all, and goodnight!
