I Samuel 2:26, "Meanwhile, the boy Samuel grew taller and grew in favor with Lord and with the people." (May 8, Old Testament reading in the CYL Daily Bible)
Luke 2:52 reads, "Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and the people." (March 17, New Testament)
I'd love to hear your thoughts?
Be encouraged,
Becky

I thought about the nurturing support thing. I was adopted out of my family of origin to a wonderful christian family that loved on me. (They died, but left me with wonderful memories and pointed me to Jesus always) I am different and have tools in my tool chest that my brothers, who stayed, don't have. What a difference nurturing a young person can make. Thank You Becky for encouraging us to invest in this younger generation. I am proof that it works>
ReplyDeleteOver the weekend, I spent time in another city with my blood mother I didn't want to go, I was missing some great things here. I have 3 great kids who shower me with Love, plus, some activities that I wanted to go to. I knew God was calling me to love on my mother. The day I prayed whether I should go Jet Blue had a day only sale and there staring me in the face was this very affordable air faire. Then something remarkable happened. God gave me a different attitude towards her.
Sunday the reading in Psalm 106:3
"There is joy for those who deal justly with others and always do what is right. Remember me, Lord, when you show favor to your people;come near and rescue me."
I returned Monday night with lightness in my step and Joy in my heart. Nothing changed in my mothers difficult situation but every thing changed in my heart. This is only possible in Jesus and it was named in the daily reading on Mother's Day. Praise God!!!!!
Amen, Robbie, Amen! Your last paragraph certainly ties in with today's readings, doesn't it? This morning, as I read from the CYL Bible, I truly sensed God's presence and power. My pen couldn't seem to help marking passages whose message kept repeating. Samuel told Saul, in Ch. 10, vs. 6, "At that time the Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you . . . . You will be changed into a different person. After these signs take place, do what must be done, for God is with you." Verse 9 says, "As Saul turned and started to leave, God gave him a new heart . . . ." Verse 10 says, "Then the Spirit of God came powerfully upon Saul . . . ." Later, in Chapter 11, verse 6, " the Spirit of God came powerfully upon Saul, and he became very angry." The end of verse 7 tells us that "the Lord made the people afraid of Saul's anger, and all of them came out together." A few verses later, "Saul replied, 'No one will be executed today, for today the Lord has rescued Israel.'"
ReplyDeleteThe reading from John reiterates the power of God in the person of Jesus, and shows again that "The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words [Jesus has] spoken to you are spirit and life."
Psalm 107 continues the idea of God as a healer and rescuer and the Psalmist says over and over again, "He rescued them from their distress" (6), ". . . led them straight to safety" (7), "satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things" (9). The ideas are further repeated in verses 13, 14, 19, 28, 29, 30, 36, 38, 41, 42, and 43.
What a great psalm to read when we are feeling lost or discouraged!
May each of us keep on reading God's word, loving it, and living it.
God bless!
OK, will comment more later but would you believe I thought this group call was the other group call and totally was out of sync for a few minutes there.
ReplyDeleteIf was I rating my Bible reading, it would be a 10 but slowing down and taking more time with the daily reading....well a 7.
Now that I have four months with no outside Bible study, I am going to focus on quality time.
And again......were there not responses posted here? Including my own, because they are all gone?????????????
ReplyDeleteI think I did post saying I got all confused and thought this call was second, and the other course was first.
When I was rating myself I should have put ten for my 7/7, but felt a 7 was better for the time spent in devotions....
I had my partial post because I had copied it on my computer in case I lost it so this is what I wrote about my Mom. A friend of mine yesterday reminded me how far I have come. Because I had one of those kinds of mothers who didn't parent very well, I was pretty angry. I had forgotten about that, God healed all those hurts. "I knew God was calling me to love on my mother. The day I prayed whether I should go Jet Blue had a day only sale and there staring me in the face was this very affordable air faire. Then something remarkable happened. God gave me a different attitude towards her.

Laura, I remember you writing about not being in BSF and now being able to invest in your daily readings. I found myself this year rushing through my bible studies and the daily readings being my main focus. sure would be nice to be more balanced. I love the daily walk bible, I feel like it is my breathing. Although my bible studies are great, there just anything like the rhythm of the daily walk bible. I am so grateful to Becky for staying with her passions that she pushed and allowed God to make it all happen. I guess she was a vessel and now God has her and hubby trusting again for some pretty exciting God dreams. My brain doesn't seem to be working tonight, better close and think more about this tomorrow.
Well, it was interesting. I have been in BSF a long time, so long that now they make graduates stay home a couple weeks so they make sure they get new people in. That is only all too fair.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I was going to quit and go to a different study next fall, but it so happened that was the day my fibromyalgia support group meets and I am co-leader. I would have had to give up my position, because I would have been late every month. God sort of suggested I keep BSF day on Wednesday (starts up next October), and not lose my position with the support group.
Thus my conclusion that I have been asking for a ministry, got the fibro position by default and have an ever-changing group of about 15 to 25 people once a month who quite often need support *and* God. It isnt a group where we openly discuss 'religion' or politics, but it is a group where people need support and prayer and understanding. So, I am going to keep my post and keep Bible study on Wednesday (BSF unless I dont get in). My husband also encourages my BSF participation and he isnt a Christian so......
And, yes, I am going to try to work harder on my daily devotions with my daily Bible and CYL journal. In Order to keep track of exercise, prayer and study. Also, I did write something up for our testimonial day at BSF, and was encouraged to keep writing. I think I need to take all the years of study and Christian experience and maybe write some devotionals.
Yep, these are all dreams I am working through. And seeing Becky's dream coming to pass, only encourages all of us all the more.
7/7 the last couple of weeks. I have been out of town for daughters graduation from college and now my middle daughter is graduating from High School next weekend. Will try to listen to the call and post more later. Have a great weekend everyone.
ReplyDelete7/7 as of yesterday.....
ReplyDeleteYes, everyone have a great weekend (what's left of it.)
I just finished listening to last weeks call. I am hoping that some day I will be able to make a live call in. As I mentioned in my short earlier post, I have two daughters graduating this year, one from college and the other from high school. We just came from Baccalaureate. It made me cry when I saw only 10% of the class show up. My heart aches for those children who don't know their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. My oldest daughter has walked away from the Lord these last four years. I have watched as her choices are now affecting her physical being. I pray that I may see ways to love on this generation and to share with my oldest daughter that Jesus does still love her. I am always open to any ideas or words from others that the Lord may use to guide me on this journey. Have a blessed week.
