Politics and the Bible

Just reading through Chronicles -- all the troops, wars, defections, armies, and kings -- reminds me that NOT TOO MUCH has changed since the days of King David. Every culture is driven by ego, power, position, family loyalties, deceit, and battles over land. (I could go on-and-on about multiple wives, wicked children, and other craziness...but I won't go on-and-on.)

Instead I will encourage you to be diligent in your prayers for our nation and its leaders.  One verse struck me as unusual, "In fact, everyone in Israel agreed that David should be their king."  Could you imagine an entire nation in agreement?  I am driven to my knees more and more for our country--please join me.

Be encouraged,

Becky

  1. Got a call today from someone I gave Becky's book Let God talk to you. She said that her husband read the book and now is in Indonesia ministering to the people over there. He was asked to give a talk and decided on Listening to God as his topic and is using Becky's book as one of his resources. Isn't it encouraging when one can be apart of God's plan in others lives. She asked me to keep her husband in prayer over the next week.
Years ago I had an opportunity to meet President Bush who asked those in attendance of this rally to PRAY. It had never occurred to me to pray before this. Thank you Becky for the nation prayer. I don't see there is anything more important than prayer.

  2. Good Morning! Wow it has been a rough week at my house, but God is faithful and good. In our Thursday night Bible Study we are studying prayer and guess what we decided we should be praying about this week? Yup, our nation and its leaders and the upcoming election. Today in my Bible reading time from the devotion to the readings it was all about trusting in God. I really enjoyed Oswald Chambers reading for today. Here is just a glimpse of his thoughts.
"Nothing happens in any particular unless God's will is behind it, therefore you can rest in perfect confidence in Him. Prayer is not only asking, but an attitude of mind which produces the atmosphere in which asking is perfectly natural."

7/7 Have a great week and may God continue to bless each of you.

  3. Lorraine,
Like that quote!! Prayer does change our attitudes and framework.
I am off to a week of Jill Briscoe, she is speaking at a conference center that I accepted Christ when I was a little girl. I am taking a gal I introduced to the Lord a few years ago. Got my Bible and prayer journal with me. Looking forward to reading your thoughts when I get back.

  5. Hi All: 7/7 again as of Friday.

Robbie, have a blessed time. She is a favorite author of mine.
Here's what I am taking away this week:
First, yes to remember to pray for our leaders, elections etc. But also, I have been a little too caught up in political talk radio. I used to listen to so much more Christian radio, music and teathers. Since my husband is not a believer but will listen when the radio is on, I need to really fill the house up with that once again. I'm been missing it.....
