Two of my favorite stories of kings who rallied the people they led to call on God in great dependence are found in this week's Old Testament reading!
II Chronicles 15:1 (and following) - Asa was met by Azariah who said, "The Lord will stay with you as long as you stay with Him! Whenever you seek Him, you will find Him." So Asa gathered the people and..."they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord...with all their heart and soul. . . They shouted their oath of loyalty to the Lord...They earnestly sought after the Lord and they found Him."
II Chronicles 19 and 20 is the story of King Jehoshaphat, Asa's son, and the battle that was fought and won (for them) by the Lord. (If you've never read the whole account SLOWLY -- it's brilliant!) These two chapters are packed with great INSPIRATION. The account begins when a VAST army comes from Edom to overtake Judah. King Jehoshaphat, terrified, called all the people together to fast and pray. Afterward a prophet spoke on behalf of the Lord to them, "Do not be afraid! Don't be discouraged by this mighty army for the battle is not yours but God's. Tomorrow, march out against them. . .But you will not even need to fight.Take your positions; then stand still and watch the Lord's victory!" (There is so much more to this story, so please soak it up!)
In my life, so many friends need God to win a battle for them. These words encourage me; I hope they encourage you as well.

Whoops, I guess I should read the Email that says call is on Thursday this week....duh....
ReplyDeleteThe II Chronicles story was just perfect for me this week.
ReplyDeleteI asked God to fight a battle for me and our small business, and He did. Even though I am more reading than digging, I can see now where doing this all year every year will make such a difference in my life. This course has been a huge eye opening blessing.
7/7 this past week.
Laura.
The bible is so rich with direction. I got an idea while listening to this weeks talk. I pray for my son daily and sometimes God will specifically give me a verse that feels so fitting for him. This year, at college, I am going to write out these thoughts and verses and mail them to him.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, I think I will use these promptings from the Lord to write notes to others.
I went with a friend to help her pick out make-up. She said she needed a little lift. We walked out of the store with a bag full of make-up. I couldn't sleep that night it just didn't seem right to me that we spent 2 hours at a make-up counter and then all that money. I got up and prayed, God show me how to live for you, to think like you think. What is important in God's economy. You can imagine how these words just jumped off the page at me.
Romans 12:2 "Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."
I took the stuff I bought back to the store. What I have is good enough. I want to be transformed from the inside out. God cares about every detail in our life. I love the way God talks to me through his word.
Another thought. My son is needing direction and keeps getting roadblocks. Again, Romans 12 to the rescue. verse 12 "Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. When God's people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality."
ReplyDelete#2 point prayer and fasting. Such truth!!
I am headed up to my mothers so I will miss the call. Look forward to when I can be on the live call.
Have a special time with you Mom Robbie.
