Something new in the Old Testament!

This week, I read something--seemingly for the first time--in Ezekiel 14:14 , "Even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were there, their righteousness would save no one but themselves, says the Sovereign Lord."

No king or priest was mentioned in this list.  Only a farmer, land owner (businessman) and civil servant (government worker).  I LOVED that these three men who did not hold "spiritual" roles, and who had not shamed God's name, were identified as those He considered righteous.

The call upon us to be of higher standards and set apart is not exclusive to spiritual leaders.  And those considered by God to be leaders were not (necessarily) those who held spiritual or religious positions.

We must see ourselves as incredibly important leaders simply because we are called HIS OWN...and live accordingly.  Yes?

Be encouraged,

Becky

  1. This is the second time that Becky referenced a Bible verse that caught my attention as well. I read this verse Sunday night and wondered if I had ever noticed it before so I went back through all the Change your Life Daily Bible's I have used over the years and not once in just shy of 11 years have I marked this verse until this year. God is definately speaking to me through his Word and then again through this group. What an awesome God we have. Amen.

  2. Powerful! Thank you for seeing this Lorraine and Becky, it passed me by. This is only my second year reading the bible every day and I can see the changes it has made in me. I feel more familiar with the order and find the passages come alive during the day. I can't believe how many times I started to read the daily walk bible never to finish it and to think that now it is apart of my daily life. Woo Hoo!

  3. Hope you are all having a blessed week.
I'm enjoying our reading of Hebrews, though after my pastor spent two years on the book I dont remember certain things. I guess that is because the Word is fresh and timely!

  4. Something I did this week was to hold on to something, a sentence or a word from the days reading. Psalm 110 You are the Protector was Saturday's. Only God would know that while my bible was in the overhead bin of the plane I was on, I would need to share this thought with the young woman sitting next to me. Ps 110:5 The Lord stands at your right hand to protect you.
It has been hard for me to know what my purpose is, what God is calling me to do, but it becomes more clear each day through praying and reading the word. I know that PRAYING plays a major part. I am excited for a series on prayer. Perfect timing!

  5. Psalm 112:4 light shines in the darkness for the godly...vs7 "They do not fear bad news; they are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly." On any given day I read the previous day's Psalm to start my prayer. These words resounded in my heart this morning, giving me hope and an instruction for my life. Yesterday when I read them they didn't jump off the page, so today, this day, when I needed them most God highlighted them for me.
Yesterday, I prayed fervently for my best friend who has a staff infection that isn't getting any better, my mother who is going through a crisis and wants me to come get her, and my son who has lost his way. At the end of the day I heard each one of these people say thank you for praying with me, I feel comforted. I had a heavy heart when I went to bed. "Light shines in the darkness for the godly." I am to be generous, compassionate, and righteous.
Hebrews 12:14 "Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy, without holiness no one will see the Lord." NIV
I have no answers for any of these situations but I know God does and that is what I am hanging my hat on. If I wasn't reading this bible everyday I wouldn't have heard such powerful assurances from the Lord. Please all be encouraged.
