Be Encouraged!

I don't remember reading the very words I use daily as a closing to every email and letter in the New Testament. But on July 5 (Acts 23: 11) there it was: "That night the Lord appeared to Paul and said, "Be encouraged, Paul. Just as you have been a witness to me here in Jerusalem, you must preach the Good News in Rome as well." When you think of the word "encourage/ment," what/who comes to mind? Do a bit of word-searching and/or cross referencing and share some of your thoughts! Be encouraged, Becky

  1. WEll, I think I am today (encouraged).
I was set to test and train for an online job yesterday and today. When they sent me the amount of material that needed to be studied in one and half days, plus the discrepencies in the job, well I just decided not to do it. A little while ago Living Social called and they decided to move our coupon run from next Wed. to tomorrow. So, we should be busy and I would never have made those tests or all the studying and practice stuff.
My husband was having knee trouble since his incident a few weeks ago, and he got cleared from the doctor (via a cortisone shot) to work. So he is ready to go.
I'm still intending to work on some writing and some writing jobs but at least now I am not panicky about that other job.

  2. This is a bit freaky too. When I wrote an Email telling the job trainer I decided not to try for the job, I said we had a Living Social offer running Wednesday and I would be too busy. However, we didnt know we would be running Wednesday until this morning. I wrote her that yesterday. I think I am encouraged that God is in control!

  3. Hey now.........and then the trainer from the company wrote and said they appreciated my honesty and they will keep my paperwork on file for any simpler jobs that may come along. So, yeah encouraged is a good word.

  4. Laura, your posts--and your kind words when I called in a few minutes ago--encouraged me. God really is in control, whether we acknowledge that or not.

I'm so glad to be back with the groups (even though it is at the very end of this one). I've kept all of you in my prayers and have kept my daily appointment with God on most [but not all ;-(] days. I've needed some encouragement lately, but as Becky pointed out, how wonderful it feels when we can encourage others. That old saying about "more blessed to give than to receive" is right. One of my neighbors (and step-mother of one of my closest friends from childhood) has had some real health issues recently and had to move to an assisted living back at the beginning of May. Sunday was her birthday, so I made her favorite cake [She had told me back in April, around my birthday, "All I want for my birthday is one of those coconut cakes you make"] and we took her out to her favorite restaurant for dinner. It was good to laugh and talk with her and see her enjoying the spotlight. :-)

Becky, I think all of us will be praying for you tomorrow morning. May YOU be encouraged!!

    Thank you all.

  5. Lord go before me to be an encourager. A prayer that needs to be prayed often. Last week I went away on the 4th to give my brothers a break from the care of my mother. One brother went away and one was there 1/2 of the week. Somehow, my intention of being a encourager was lost with this brother. I took over and did things that hadn't been done in a long while. I thought I was encouraging but he took it that I was better than him and he was messing up. The topic of being an encourager hit home. I need God to go before me and guide the way. What my brother needed was words that said what he was doing right.
Becky, Thanks again for an inspiring message today.

  6. Lord, we ask you to bless each member of this group and keep us in your Word for the rest of our days. Help us continue long past this course.
Be with Becky in her travels, give her safe passage and bless her presentation tomorrow. May your perfect will be done. Give the listeners your wisdom, so everyone involved has a heart of unity in You. Give Becky clarity in her presentation, and may she perfectly convey the vision You have given to her.
Help Robbie as she deals with her brothers and the care of her Mom. Bless Wanda's summer, and all her endeavors as she goes about. Bless Lorraine in her work situations, and family dealings.
Bless each person who is in this group that may not be coming to mind right now.
Thank you for bringing us together, and pour out your continued blessings on Becky and her ministry. Go before her, behind her and right beside her through this whole trip and her trip to Africa as well.
    Amen.

  7. Anxious to hear how Becky's trip went.
Also, wow, the Living Social offer really took off this time. We have sold about 159 jobs and have one day left that our offer runs.
Then, regular customers started calling...so many that we are scrambling to get everyone on the schedule book. My husband has way over-booked himself, not taking a day off. I'm trying to space jobs out a bit for him.
    Thank you for your prayers!

  8. Romans 1:11-12 (NIV)
11 I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong--
12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith.

    1 Thessalonians 3:7-8 (NIV)
7 Therefore, brothers, in all our distress and persecution we were encouraged about you because of your faith.
8 For now we really live, since you are standing firm in the Lord.

Encouraged because of someone's faith and mutually encouraged by each other's faith. To me that speaks of being happy for someone else's growth, giving thanks for someone's faith, and sharing in and encouraging one another in the faith. It suggests not being jealous of someone's gifts or accomplishments, but mutually sharing in these things that God is doing.
    Hope that makes sense.
