We live in a culture where wrong is right, good is bad, anything goes, and no one cares. Apparently, Paul wrote this letter to Timothy to remind him how to live his "new life" in a crazy culture! A few nuggets include:
1:6-8...I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline. So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord...
2:2...You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.
2:21...If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work.
The nuggets go on and on in this letter from Paul to Timothy, his ment-ee (or coach-ee)! What is one verse in II Timothy that has stood out for you this week?
Please post:)!
Be encouraged,
Becky

I went back to my journal to see what 2 Timothy said to me. As I am raising teenagers and college age children I am experiencing the world, but I was surprised how God had spoken to me. So here are the versus and what my prayers or thoughts were:
ReplyDelete"That is why I am suffering here in prison. But I am not ashamed of it, for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return." 2 Timothy 1:12
Paul was in prison and still not ashamed of the Good News and the Lord Jesus Christ. What about me? Have I ever spoken about the Lord to anyone other than family members? Where is my faith truthfully? Open my heart, Lord.
2 Timothy 2:21
“If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work.”
Examine my heart O God. Where have I not kept pure?
"You should know this, Timothy that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred." 2 Timothy 3:1-2
Lord,
Oh boy! How true this is becoming in our world today. And as Paul goes on to say he has suffered for his faith and when I read that I realized that I might not be suffering from people outside my family, but I am being persecuted by my own family for my faith. But just as Paul endured, you are with me and I will endure. You have given me Jesus so I can pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love and peace. All the negativity and evil that can be thrown at me, I will remain a child of God and pursue the better things in this life. I won't stop praying or believing that God will save my family. In Jesus name, Amen
"But the Lord stood with me and gave me strength so that I might preach the Good News in its entirety for all the Gentiles to hear. And he rescued me from certain death." 2 Timothy 4:17
My sin is the failure to remember that God stands with me and gives me strength to do what he has called me to do. I am not alone. Jesus Christ dwells in me! Today, my prayer is that I am made aware of the Lord standing next to me and giving me his strength to be a Romans 12 Christian and not just another person who goes to church on Sunday!

Blessing on the rest of your week.
Lorraine, thank you for your powerful, beautiful thoughts. Perseverance and faith are keys, aren't they? You sound stronger and more confident in your faith with each week's postings.
ReplyDeleteWishing you and everyone in this group many blessings this week. I'll be back this weekend to post some thoughts on this week's assignments.
Just wanted to share some thoughts from "World Aflame" by Bill Graham written in 1965.
ReplyDelete"America and Western Europe are on a moneymaking, pleasure mad spree unparalleled in the history of the world. God is generally ignored or ridiculed. Church members in many cases are only half hearted Christian."
Enjoy your Sunday and may we worship our Lord and Creator with a whole heart.
God's Blessings
